Staghorn Fern

Cautions — Toxic to cats, dogs, and children. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.

The Staghorn Fern (Platycerium bifurcatum) is an epiphytic fern native to Australia and Southeast Asia. It produces two types of fronds: flat, shield-like fronds at the base and long, forked, antler-shaped fronds that extend outward. In nature it grows on trees rather than in soil. It is presented here potted in an organic, well-draining medium. Grows up to 60–90 cm across.

Care Light — Bright indirect light. Avoid deep shade, which weakens the fronds. Water — Water the base and allow to dry slightly between waterings. Do not let it sit in standing water. Misting the fronds is beneficial. Humidity — Requires high humidity. Mist the fronds regularly. Temperature — 15–27°C. Avoid cold drafts. Fertiliser — Feed monthly during the growing season with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. Difficulty — Moderate.

This plant arrives repotted into a beige stoneware pot (diameter 12 cm) — organic stoneware form with a pigmented glaze and silicone treatment. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Drainage hole included.
